2010 SCT Fellow: Steven Goodman
Steve works as a biostatistician and epidemiologist at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. Although his primary appointment is in Oncology he has joint appointments in Pediatrics, Biostatistics, and Epidemiology. Steve has developed a strong presence as a "thinker" and "commentator" on philosophical aspects of statistics as applied to medical research. He has published numerous articles and commentaries (including several on ethics) in both the statistics and medical literature and in the popular press. He is a Senior Statistical Editor of the Annals of Internal Medicine, in his 23rd year, a position he used to advance the education of the broader medical community in research methods. However, Steves key editorial experience has been as Editor of our Society journal, Clinical Trials. His leadership of our Journal has been outstanding, exemplified in the quantity and quality of the articles, commentaries, and editorials that have appeared there.?Finally, Steve has been a long-time, active member of SCT serving on the Board of Directors, Chair of the Student Scholarship Committee, and as Editor of the Society Journal. Also, he started Project Impact, that looks at the history of the influence of key clinical trials on the practice of medicine. This ultimately led to the Trial of the Year award and session at our annual meeting.
