2010 SCT Fellow: Janet Darbyshire
Janet has been the Director of the Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit since 1998 and since 2005 the Director of the NIHR Clinical Research Network. Janet has been a major leader in clinical trials in the UK and worldwide, making major contributions to trials in tuberculosis, HIV and other infectious diseases. She has been involved, through giving advice to trialists or sponsors, in virtually every major clinical trial in the UK for the last 10 years, often without expectation of recognition for her role. Her contribution to UK clinical science was recently recognized in her being made a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in the New Year Honours List. Finally, Janet has been a long-time, active member of SCT including serving on the Advisory Board of the Societys Journal, Presenting the Founders Lecture, membership on the Board of Directors and the Program Committee.
