2008 SCT Fellow: O. Dale Williams
As a young man, he had the ability to assume a leadership role, attract resources, and organize a superb coordinating center. The topic of his Remington Methodology Lecture at the AHA Council on Epidemiology and Prevention Annual Meeting in the Spring of 2000 was DSMBs. It was not only the best 40 minute description of the scientific and administrative features of a DSMB anyone in the audience of experts had ever heard, it was elegant, entertaining, and human.
His contributions to the Society are manifold; many pre-date the Society itself. In the 1970s and early 80s he was instrumental in organizing Symposia on coordinating centers that served as the foundation for the Society. . . . But perhaps a more important contribution was in the formation of the Societys original journal Controlled Clinical Trials.
