2008 SCT Fellow: Salim Yusuf
In 1984 he joined the NHLBI and brought with him an unwavering conviction about the necessity for large, simple randomized trials. As the Project Officer on several of NHLBIs trials, he exerted forceful and creative leadership. When he left NHLBI for McMaster, he built an extraordinarily strong multidisciplinary clinical trials group
He has focused on international trials, conducting the studies in communities where the findings would be most useful. He has fostered efficiency through simplicity and factorial designs. He has encouraged the growth of a network of clinical trialists in Latin America.
He has performed many of the major overviews in cardiovascular disease.
He is an outstanding lecturer, as is well known to participants in SCT meetings where he has been an invited speaker.
He also has developed innovative funding models for large clinical trials.
