2008 SCT Fellow: Joel I. Verter
 He has been an extremely active member of the Society, serving as Secretary for eight years.
As a 30-year member of the Biostatistics Research Branch at NHLBI, he brought insight and intelligence to many of their major randomized trials. He collaborated closely with the senior staff in the Blood Division to design and implement a series of important clinical trials in sickle cell disease.
Through his patience, intelligence, and broad ranging knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical trials, he exerted major influence on the design and analysis of multiple practice-changing trials.
