2007 SCT Fellow: George Williams
George Williams has played a significant role in developing a viable infrastructure for the growth and success of statistical and clinical trial practice in both academia and industry. While in academia, he directed numerous data coordinating centers for collaborative trials, including the Nocturnal Oxygen Therapy Trial and the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease Trial. During this period, while working on trials that presented difficult challenges in interim monitoring, he creatively developed efficient but appropriate methodologies for handling these challenges. After moving to industry, he continued his involvement in a wide range of trials in numerous areas and phases of product development. At one point, he led one of the largest pharmaceutical organizations of statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists, data coordinators and programmers devoted to clinical trials. Finally, he has served on many SCT committees, has been a member of the Board of Directors, and has served as President.
