 Director of many coordinating centers, member or chair of data monitoring committees for dozens of trials, including ECMO, BHAT, CASS, SHEP, CAST, the Womens Health Initiative, DCCT, GUSTO, and the Physicians Health Study, international influence on clinical trial design and conduct, co-author of many influential papers and books on methodology, especially in the area of interim monitoring, frequent advisor to NIH and FDA, early member of the Societys Board of Directors and past president of the Society.
